Frontend Engineer, React
A lot of our customers run their business from a phone. They are invoicing from a van, between appointments, on a site with one bar of signal, often at the end of a long day. That is the real constraint on this job, and it is a more interesting one than it sounds.
You would build the product surfaces in React and TypeScript, and own whether they stay quick as the product grows.
The work
Day to day:
- Build product features in React and TypeScript, from the design file through to the shipped detail
- Hold the line on performance as the app grows, and prove it with numbers rather than impressions
- Make every flow keyboard-navigable and correct for a screen reader
- Shape the shared component library alongside the design team
- Write the tests that stop a regression reaching someone’s invoice
What we are looking for
Four or so years writing production React with strong TypeScript. Real accessibility knowledge — focus management, semantics, contrast — not a plugin you ran once.
We would love to see something you made fast that used to be slow, and hear how you knew.
Taste matters here too: the transitions, the optimistic update, the error state that tells someone what to do next rather than what went wrong.
Where you work
This one is fully remote. We care where you are only insofar as the law does: you need the right to work in the UK or the US already, because there is no office attached to this job for us to sponsor you into. Beyond that, work from wherever you work best.
We overlap a few hours a day and write the rest down. Most decisions live in documents and pull requests rather than meetings, which is partly a philosophy and mostly a consequence of being spread across time zones.
Pay and the rest of it
$95,000–$135,000 a year, reviewed every year against the market for where you live, plus share options — everyone here owns a piece of the company.
Flexible hours, a budget for whatever laptop and desk you actually want, an annual learning budget, generous paid time off that we check people take, and paid parental leave for every parent however you become one.
How to apply
Use the form at the bottom of this page. Attach your CV and write a few sentences about why this role — not a cover letter, just the honest version. If something in this posting is wrong for you but the rest fits, say so; we would rather know.
We read every application ourselves and reply to all of them, including the ones we turn down. If you need any adjustment to the process, tell us in your note and we will arrange it.
