How the Cash Runway Calculator works
Runway is how long your business can keep going before the cash runs out, at your current rate of spending. Divide the cash you hold by your monthly net burn — the cash you lose each month after any revenue — and you get the number of months you have. If you’re cash-flow positive, there’s no burn and runway is effectively unlimited.
Runway is the number founders watch most closely, because it sets the clock on raising money or reaching profitability. Many aim to keep 12–18 months in the bank. The quickest way to extend it without cutting costs is to invoice faster and collect sooner.
