VAT Calculator
Enter an amount and VAT rate to add VAT (from net) and remove VAT (from gross).
How to use this calculator
- 1Enter the amount you are working from.
- 2Enter the VAT rate (e.g. 20%).
- 3Read the gross (VAT added) and net (VAT removed) figures side by side.
How the VAT Calculator works
VAT (value added tax) is added at each stage of the supply chain and shown separately on invoices. To add VAT to a net price you multiply by one plus the rate; to find the VAT already inside a gross price you divide by one plus the rate. Charging or reclaiming the wrong amount is a common bookkeeping error, so the direction matters.
This calculator handles both directions at once. Whether a supplier quoted you a VAT-inclusive figure or you need to add VAT to your own price, you see the net, the VAT, and the gross instantly at any rate.

How do I add VAT to a price?
Multiply the net amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). At 20%, a $1,000 net becomes $1,200 gross.
How do I remove VAT from a gross amount?
Divide the gross amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). At 20%, a $1,200 gross contains $200 of VAT and $1,000 net.
Does this work for any VAT rate?
Yes — set any rate (e.g. 5%, 7.5%, 20%, 23%) and it adds and removes VAT at that rate.
