How the GST Calculator works

Formula
Gross = Net × (1 + Rate ÷ 100) · Net = Gross ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100)

GST (goods and services tax) is a broad consumption tax added to most sales in countries like Australia, New Zealand, India, Canada and Singapore. To add GST you multiply the net price by one plus the rate; to find the GST already inside a gross price you divide by one plus the rate. This tool shows both at once.

Rates differ by country — 10% in Australia, 15% in New Zealand, and several slabs in India — so set the rate that applies to you. If you are GST-registered you generally charge it on sales and reclaim it on purchases, so getting the split right keeps your bookkeeping clean.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add GST?

Multiply the net amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). At 10% GST, a $1,000 net becomes $1,100 gross.

How do I remove GST from a total?

Divide the gross amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). At 10%, a $1,100 total contains $100 of GST and $1,000 net.

What GST rate should I use?

It depends on your country: 10% in Australia, 15% in New Zealand, 5% in Canada (plus provincial), and multiple slabs in India. Set the rate that applies to you.
